1 Sir Mark Walker served in the Eastern campaign of 1854-55 as Adjutant of the 30th Regiment, including the
battles of Alma (wounded) and Inkerman, siege of Sebastopol, and sortie on 26th October. On the night of the 21st
April he volunteered and led a party which took and destroyed a Russian Rifle-pit, for which he was mentioned it
the despatches, and promoted into the Buffs. On the night of the 9th June he was dangeronsly wounded in thn
trenches — right arm amputated (Brevet of Major, Victoria Cross, Medal with three Clasps, 5th Class of the Med.jidie
and Turkish Medal) : received the 1 T C "for having at Inkerman, 5th November 1854, distinguished himself in front
of his regiment, by .jumping over a wall in the face of two battalions of Russian Infantry which were marching
towards it, for the purpose of encouraging his comrades by his example to advance against such heavy odds, which
they did, and succeeded in driving back both battalions." Served throughut the campaign of i860 in China as
Brigade Major of the 4th Brigade (Medal with two Clasps for the Taku Forts and Pekin, and Brevet of Lt.Colonel.
4 Major General Smith-Dorrien served in the Zulu war in 1879, and was present in the engagements at Isanhlwana
and Uluudi (mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp). Served in the Egyptian war or 1882 in command of the
Mounted Infantry (which he raised) with Sir Evelyn Wood's Brigade (Medal, and Khedive's Star). Served in the
Soudan campaign in 1885 with the Mounted Infantry (Clasp); also served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force
in 1885-86 including the investment of Kosheh and the engagement at Giniss (mentioned in despatches, LSO.,
and 4th Class of the Medjidie). In 1887 he was nominated to the 4th Class of the Osmanieh for services with the
Egyptian Army. Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India, under Sir William Lockhart in
1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment, and was present at the
capture of the Sampagha and Arhanga Passes, and in the operations in the Mastura, Waran, and Bazar Valleys
mentioned in despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel, Medal with two Clasps). Served in the Soudan campaign under
Sir Herbert Kitchener in 1898, and was present at the battle of Khartoum and subsequent operations (mentioned in
despatches, Brevet of Colonel, British Medal, and Khedive's Medal with Clasp).
5 Major Taylor served in the Egyptian war of 1882 with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment (Medal, and
Khedive's Star). Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in
1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment, and was present at the

8 Lt.Colonel Wylly served with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment in the Egyptian warof 1882 (Medal, and
Khedive's Star). Served in the Sikkim Expedition in 1E88 with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment, part ot
the time in command of a detachment, and was present in the engagements at Jeluk, Gnathong, and the Jelapla
(mentioned in despatches, Medal with Clasp) . Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under
Sir William Lockhart in 1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment,
and was present atthe storming of the Dargai Heights, the capture of the Sampagha and Arhanga Passes, and

9 Major Godley served in the Sikkim Expedition in 1888 with the 2nd Battalion Derbyshire Regiment, and .
was present in the engagement at the Jelapla (Medal with Clasp) .
13 Major Watts served in the operations in South Africa under Sir Frederick Carrington in 1896; assisted in
organising the Matabeieland Relief Force and afterwards commanded a Relief Column to Mashonaland as well as-
the Column which finally assaulted Makoni's stronghold and captured that Chief (mentioned in despatches, Medal).
15 Brigadier General Cunningham served in the Egyptian war 011882, and was present in the engagements at El
Magfar and Tel-el-Mahuta, and in the action at Kassasin on the 28th August— twice wounded (mentioned in des-
patches, Medal, Brevet of Major, 5th Class of the Medjidie, and Khedive's Star). Served in the Nile Expedition in
1SS4-85 with the 2nd Battalion of the Dake of Cornwall's Light Infantry, and took part in the operations of the
