"59 Lieut. Gunthorpe served in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles during
the operations round Storinberg; with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment during the operations round
Colesberg in January 1000, and took part in the march along the Modder River, including the engagement at
Paardeberg 1 slightly wounded 1 : in the advance on Dewetsdorp, including the engagement at Leeuwkop; in the
march from Bloemfontein to Pretoria, including the passage of the Vet and Zand Rivers, the engagements at
Brandfort, Kroonstad, and Johannesburg, and the occupation of Pretoria ; and in the advance to the Eastern
Transvaal, including tie engagements at Diamond Hill and Belfast.
40 Lieut. Watson served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of In lit trader Sir William Lockhart
in 1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 2nd Bsttaiion Yorkshire Regiment, was present at
the capt ire of the Sampagha and Arhanga Passes, the capture of Bagh, the Dwatoi reconnaissance (severely
wounded), the reconnaissance of the Saran Sar and engagement of nth November, and in the operations
against the Khani Khel Chamkani* (Medal with two Clasps).
41 Lieuts. Walker and Sanderson served in the South African war in 1900, and took part in the advance to the
Eastern Transvaal, including the engagements at Diamond Hill and Belfast.
42 Lieut*. Stansfeld (VSO.\, Tarbet 1 DSO.),anH Nevile served in the South African war in 1899-J5C0 with a Bat-
talion of Mounted Infantry.
43 Lieut. Darwin served in the South African war in 1S09-1900 with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and
took part in the operations round Colesberg in January 1900; in the march along the Modder River, including the
engagements at Paardeberg, Poplar Grove, and Driefontein, and the occupation of Bloemfontein: in the advance on
Dewetslorp, including the engagement at Leeuwkop; in the march from Bloemfontein to Pretoria, including the
passage of the Yet and Zand Rivers, the engagements at Brandfort, Kroonstad, and Johannesburg, and the
occupation of Pretoria: and as a Brigade Transport Officer in the advance to tha Eastern Transvaal, including the
engagements at Diamond Hill and Belfast (D.S'O. ).
44 Lieuts. Roskell and Swan served in the campaign on the Norte West Frontier of India under Sir William
Lockhart in 1S97-9S with the Tirah Expeditionary Force with the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment (Medal v* itta

45 Lieut. Wardle served in the South African war in 1809-1000 with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and was
present in the operations round Colesberg in January 1900; inthe march along the Modder River, including the

46 Lieuts. Bunbury and Broun served in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the 1st Battalion York-

Modder River, including the engagements at Paardeberg, Poplar Grove, and Driefontein, and the occupation of
Bloemfontein : in the advance on Dewetsdorp, including the engagement ac Leeuwkop ; in the march from

47 Lieuts. Bastow and Morgan served in the South African war in 1899-1003 with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regi-
ment, and took part in the march from Bloemfontein to Pretoria, including the passage of the Vet and Zand
Rivers, the engagements at Brandfort, Kroonstad, and Johannesburg, and the occupation of Pretoria ; and in the
advance to the Eastern Transvaal, including the engagements at Diamond Hill and Belfast.
4S Second Lieut. Bagshawe served in the South African war in iSqg-igoo with the 3rd Battalion Yorkshire
Regiment at Port Elizabeth, and was present with the Army Service Corps in the engagement at Rietvlei; and
afterwards with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment in the march to the Eastern Transvaal, including the
engagement at Belfast.
50 Lieut. Greer served in the camoaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir William Lockhart in
