1 Lieut.General Chippindall served with the 32nd Regiment during the latter part of the siege operations
before Mooltan, and was present at the surrender of that fortress ; also at the surrender of the Fort and Garrison
of Cheniote, and at the battle of Goojerat (Medal with two Clasps). Served through 3Ut the Eastern campaign of
l8 54~55 w 'tn the 19th Regiment, including the affair of Bulganak. battles of Alma and Inkerman, in the Trenches
during the whole of the siege operations before Sebastopol, assaults of the Redan on the iSth June and 8I1 Septem-
ber—wounded (Medal with three Clasps. Brevet of Major, Knight of the Legion of Honor, 5th Class of the
Medjidie. and Turkish Medal). Commanded 1st Battalion 19th Regiment in the Hazara campaign of 1S68, includ-
ing the expedition against the tribes on the Black Mountain (mentioned in despatches, CB., Medal with Clasp).
LColonel Spottiswoode served during the Nile Expeditionin 1334-85 with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment
on the Lines of Communication up the Nile.
3 Lt.Colonel Bowles served in the Nile Expedition in 1884-85 as Staff Officer at Assouan (mentioned in des-

Clasps) Served in the South African war in 1899-1900 in command of the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and
was present in the operations round Colesberg in January 1900 (mentioned in despatches); in the march along
the Modder River including the engagement at Paardeberg (severely wounded) ; the advance on Dewetsdorp in-
cluding the engagement at Leenwkop; the march from Bloemfontein to Pretoria including the passage of the Yet
and Zand Rivers ; the engagements at Brandfort, Kroonstad, and Johannesburg, and the occupation of Pretoria ;

the Line of Communications up the Nile. Served in the campaign on the North West Frontier of India under Sir
William Lockhart in 1897-98 with the Tirah Expeditionarv Force with the 2nd Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and
was presentat the capture of the Sampagha and ArhangaPasses, the capture of Bagh, the Dwatoi reconnaissance,
the crossing of the Kahu Darra, the reconnaissance of the Saran Sir and engagement of nth November, ana

Driefontein, and at the occupation of Bloemfontein ; also took part in the advance on Dewetsdorp including the
engagement at Leeu.vkop, the march from Bloemfontein to Pretoria including the passage of the Vet and Zand
Rivers, the a gage me nts at Braudlort, Kroonstad, an I Johannesburg, and the occupation of Pretoria ; and in the
advance to the E 1 stern Transvaal including the engagements at Diamond Hill and Belfast (mentioned in
despatches, Brevet of Lt.Colonel).
5 Major Thomson served with the 3rd Goorkhas in the Afghan war in 1880, and was present in the engage-
ments at Ahmed Kheyl and Urzoo near Ghuznee.and in the subsequent operations in the Logar Valley (Medal
with Clasp). Served in the Bechuanaland Expedition in 1884-85 under SirCharles Warren with the Corps of Guides.
b Major Kirkpatrick served in the South African war in 1899-1900 with the 1st Battalion Yorkshire Regiment, and
took part in the operations round Colesberg in January 1900, and in the march along the Modder River, including
the engagement at Paardeberg— severely wounded.
J Major Handcock served with the Soudan Frontier Field Force in 1835-86 during the operations on the Upper
