Eilean Donan Castle on
Loch Duich in Wester
Ross, Scotland, was
originally built in the
thirteenth century as
a stronghold for the
Mackenzies of Kintail.
Bodiam Castle in
Sussex, built about
1386, is one of several
English castles owned
by the National Trust
(see p. 215).
Harlech Castle, built
between 1285 and 1290,
is in the Snowdonia
National Park. One of
six castles in North
Wales built by Edward
I, it is now in the care
of the Ministry of
Works.
