Description	Cover illustration by W. Smithson Broadhead. The painting seems to depict Neptune, Roman God of the sea, holding a copy of 'Sea-Pie', while a pretty mermaid reads it over his shoulder. Neptune's trident is adorned with streamers in the colours of the Union Jack. Covers of 'Sea-Pie' typically featured an attractive woman or something on a nautical theme, and in this case the cover combines the two conventions. The artist, W. Smithson Broadhead, was a successful commercial illustrator whose other work included railway posters. The proceeds from this edition of 'Sea-Pie' were donated to King George's Fund for Sailors (KGFS). KGFS was founded in March 1917, its main object to provide help, comfort and relief for seafarers and their dependants through the establishment of a central fund. The fund is still in operation today.

Description	'Sea-Pie' magazine was founded to raise funds for authorised naval charities. The first issue appeared on 23 June 1917, priced one shilling. The magazine typically contained short stories, poems, cartoons, and paintings and drawings, often on a nautical theme.

Blighty and Sea Pie
Description	Editions of 'Blighty' (1917, 1918) and 'Sea Pie' (1917-1919), First World War magazines with pictures, stories, poems and humour. 'Blighty' was sent free to the men at the front and in the fleet. Profits from sales of 'Sea Pie' went to help sailors and their families.
