DescriptionThis cartoon, by Private Herbert Hyde, shows a soldier passing the time of day with an attractive young woman. The caption reads: 'WHEN YOU WISH YOU COULD SPEAK FRENCH'. The artist responsible for this cartoon was a private in the King's Liverpools. He has created a humorous scenario in which a soldier finds himself in the company of a beautiful Frenchwoman, but is unable to communicate with her.
