Description'The Conscientious Leadswinger' by Private A.E. Bestall, A.S.C. This cartoon belongs to a set of three drawn by A. E. Bestall. Here, four men (two soldiers and two officers) are grouped round a table with a pile of money in front of one of the officers. They are surrounded by tents and one of the officers has a sheet of paper in his hands. The text reads: 'THE CONSCIENTIOUS LEADSWINGER WHO REFUSES HIS PAY WHENEVER HE THINKS HE HAS NOT EARNED IT'. 'Leadswinger' is slang for a skiver.
