On the petition of James, Earl of Galloway, William,
Visct. Kenmuire, and John, Visct. Stair for Galloway and
Kirkcudburgh, showing the dangers of the Water of Dee,
which has only one ford, the Blackfox'd of Dee, 12 miles
distant from any other, on the road from Ireland to England,
and from Galloway to the south. A voluntary contribution
is ordered for building a bridge near the Blackford of the Dee.

A voluntai-y collection authorized for the redemption of
John Thomson younger, taken by an Algerian pirate on
30 October 1699 in a ship bound to Flushing, and sold into
slavery at Algiers in November whence his redemption will
cost 450 rix dollars. His slavery is attested by Eobert Cole,
H.M. Consul at Algiers, with a letter to his father, John
Thomson, in Turriff. Money to be paid to John Fordice of
Craigtocher.
