the Covenant, Nos. 1803, 1809, q.v., which are high treason.
They pray that any Scotsman who will not sign this declara¬
tion may be chased from the King's protection.

Deserters are to be arrested and sent to their companies
at the public charge, advanced by the collectors of excise, or
decimated, and the remainder sent to Edinburgh. Enter¬
tainers of fugitives to be fined 500 merks for a horseman,
£100 for a footman, one half to informers. Fine for
negligent committees, magistrates, &c., 500 merks, half to
informer. This Act to be retrospective at any time after
its publication. To be printed, read in paroch kirks, and
fixt on the door. No stranger to be received without a pass.
