A number of lords of erection and others having interest
in erections, surrenders, and teinds, have signed, and it is
expedient that all the teind sellers shall subscribe the sub¬
mission drawn up by our Advocat. As there is no need to
draw so many persons to Edinburgh, the submission may be
subscribed in the head-burghs. [George, Earl of Wintoun,
and Thomas, Erie of Hadintounj are to convene teind sellers
in the [constabularie] of [Hadintoun], receive their subscrip¬
tion to the submission, and return it to the Privy Council

All subjects desirous of buying teinds should subscribe
the submission already drawn up. They are to be warned
by proclamation at head-burghs and at their parish kirks on
Sunday before noon or by missive letters. [Grahame of
Fintrey and Adam Cuninghame of Buquhany] Commis¬
sioners for the Shire of [Striviling] are to call a meeting,
and at this meeting two commissioners for the Sherifdome
are to be chosen to sign the write and submission for the
teind buyers. If any buyer will sign it himself the two said
commissioners are to present it to him for signature. A
list of teind sellers is to be drawn up and sent to the other
commissioner so that the teind sellers can be convened.
Teind buyers who refuse to subscribe will lose favour with
the Council. A report to be sent in by 22 April. These to
be proclaimed.

Cites former proclamation, No. 1433, q.v., recalling children
sent beyond sea to popish seminaries. The resort of Jesuits
and seminary priests is more common, and the growth of
popery daily increaseth. The moderators and presbyteries
are to acquaint themselves with the number of papists in
their parishes, and send one of their number to report to
Privy Council twice a year, at the last meeting of June and
November, on oath as to the matter, on pain, &c.
