The value of the coin is raised. All silver coin to be
passed through the mint and genuine pieces to be marked
with a crown. No other to be current. 30s. piece to be
current for 36s. 9cl, 20s. for 24s. 6d., 10s. for 12s. 3d., the
teston for 7s. 4fZ. The master coiner to receive 4s. 3d. for
each 30s. piece tested, 3s. 2d. for 20s., Is. 5d. for 10s.,
lOd. for a teston.

Parliament laitlie maid at Striviling Castell upon
the [25'^] day of Julii . . .
[Legalizing new gold and silver coins.]
Stirling Castle : 18 September 1578.
A gold penny to be coined, 21 carats fine, current for 40s.,
ten to the ounce, called the Scots crown, having on one side
crown, sceptre, and sword on a St. Andrews Cross with the
date 15-78 and motto Hactenus invicta miserunt, on the other
J.R. with 6 under and motto Ad te centum ct quinque proavi.
A silver peimj', 11 doniers fine, weighing 17 dwt. 11 gr.,
current for 26s. 8d., called the two-mark piece, having on
one side a thistle with I.E. and motto Ntnio me imjnine
lacesset, and on the other the Kings arms and Jacobus 6 Del
Gratia rex Scotforum, and a mark piece of the same to be
coined. Price of bullion at the mint: gold, £20 Scots the
ounce fine; silver, 34s. Scots. This to be in force till
next Parliament.

stamped silver.
