Found only in MS.
Justifying themselves. They are accused as traitors
because they maintain the true religion. The Queen by
proclamation, 25 Aug. 1561, No. 91, q.v., inhibited any
alteration of it. The laws against popery were not enforced,
and those attempting to enforce them were persecuted.
The actions of the government have all been against religion.
The Queen is surrounded by foreign and evil advisers. She
has made and proclaimed a King over us, wasted the patri¬
mony of the crown, and of the kirk, raised divisions among
the subjects, and perverted justice. They wish only for the
welfare of the realm, whatever measures may be forced on
them.
