Owing to the rise in value of gold and silver money is
being exported. The following are the rates for foreign
gold and silver: Spanish or French pistol of gold wt. 4 dwt.
8 gr., 21s. ; half pistol 2 dwt. 4 gr., 105. 6d.; duccatoone
20 dwt. 16 gr., 6s. 8d. ; half, 3s. 4d ; quarter, Is. 8fi.; piece of
eight of Mexico or Sevil, pillar piece, cross, and other dollars,
French lewis wt. 17 dwt., 5s. 4f/. ; half piece, 2s. 8d. ;
quarter piece. Is. id. ; old Peru, piece of eight, 17 dwt.,
4s. lOd.; half, 2s. 5d. ; quarter, Is. 2^d.; crusade of
Portugal, wt. 10 dwt. 20 gr., 3s. 6d. ; half, Is. 9d. Allow¬
ance of 2d. per grain for gold, and 3c?. per dwt. for silver.

It has been usual to hold only one gaol delivery in
Kerry owing to its remoteness from Dublin. In future the
Judges of Assize in Munster are to hold Assizes twice yearly
in Kerry as well as any other county in Munster.
