1 APRIL.—BY THE LORD DEPUTIE AND
COUNCIL OP IRELAND. A Proclamation
concerning Warlike Munition, and wearing Mantles,
Trouses, and Skeins.

By previous proclamations. No. 185, &c.,q.v. ,no gunpowder,
fire-arras, or armour (swords and rapiers or their blades
excluded) are to be imported without licence of the English
Privy Council. Great quantities have been imported, whence
deer are killed, and many riots, burglaries, murders, and
even rebellion arise. None to be imported without licence.
All powder to be brought into the Ordnance Stores. Towns
to keep sufficient for defence, notifying the quantity to the
Lord Deputy. Noblemen or shipmasters to buy of the
stores. No person wearing Irish mantles or trowses to keep
muskets. Any nobleman or gentleman of English dress
may seize them. No man to wear after 1 August next any
mantles, trowses, or long skeines, or allow them to be worn
on pain of contempt. No one wearing Irish dress to be
admitted to the Council, any Court, or any Magistrate.
Sheriffs to break long skeines, and to take off and cut to
pieces any mantles or trowses worn in public. They may
be worn in the house.

nings, purification of women, burials, mortuaries, come and
hay, wooll, lambe, kid and pigges, foales, milk, calfes,
butter, and cheese, egges, geese, firres, and turffe, woode,
priuy tithes, apples, hempe and flaxe, hops, wood, bony,
waxe, and conyes, fish, gardens, milnes.' Tithes and Eccle¬
siastical duties only on these things above mentioned
are to be taken, and none others, in the said Counties, for
any cause, custom, pretence or challenge whatsoever, as
the several incumbents will answer to the contrary at
their perils.
