In this period pix new buildings have been constructed and new Automatic
â– equipment has been installed in them. Ilji'ese together with the'' Central Office, make
seven blxchanges'and in these there are at present installed equipment , for 41,400
subscribers’ Lines of Rotary 7a Automatic’ equipment. The buildings are designed so
that, / as required) additional equipmerit for 68^66 more subscribers can be addtd
making a total for which building provision has been made for 1 ;0,0()0 subscribers
Lines.
On March 31, 1932, the Exchange System contained 38,060 Telephones of which
92.9 per cent, were Automatic working. Of the remainder, 3.5 per cent, being; tele¬
phones outside the Settlement and Concession, were semi-Automatic and the balance
3.0 per: cent., also outside the Settlement and Concession, were operated manually.
Approximately .94 per cent, of all the local calls are operated by full Automatic.

The conversion to Automatic whs made in several stages, the first Automatic
Exchange was brought into service August IS, 1931, and the last March 26, 1932.
