SECT. II.] HYMNS.
2 He holds all nature in his hand :
That gracious hand on which I live.
Does life, and time, and death command,
And has immortal joys to give.
3 ’Tis he supports this aged frame
On him alone my hopes recline;
The wond’rous glories of his name,
How wide they spread! how bright they shine 5
| 4 Infinite wisdom! boundless pow’r !
' Unchanging faithfulness and love!
Here let me trust, while I adore,
j Nor from my refuge e’er remove.
HYMNS FOR DIFFERENT SEASONS OF
THE YEAR.
627.
The Blessings of the Spring; or, God gives Rain,
A Psalm for the Husbandman,
1 C' OOD is the Lord, the heav’nly King,
VT vVho makes the earth his care.
Visits the pastures ev’ry spring,
* And bids the grass appear.
|b The clouds, like rivers rais’d on high,
• Pour out, at thy command,
J Their wat’ry blessings from the sky,
I'. To cheer the thirsty land.
13 The soften’d ridges of the field
j Permit the corn to spring;
i The vallies rich provision yield.
And the poor lab’rers sing.
4 The little hills on ev’ry side
Rejoice at falling show’rs ;
The meadows, drest in all their pride,
i Perfume the air with flow’rs.
.5 The barren clods, refresh’d with rain,
; Promise a joyful crop;
