T. II.] HYMNS.
: ilercy look’d down with smiling eye,
' IThen our Immanuel left the dead ;
t aith mark’d his bright ascent on high,
nd Hope with gladness rais’d her head.
•'* iod’s goodness let us bear in mind,
jfho to his saints this day hath giv’n,
lor rest and holy joy design’d,
i (O fit our longing souls for heav’n.
descend, O Spirit of the Lord,
|hy fire to ev’ry bosom bring;
’hen shall our ardent hearts accord,
nd teach our lips God’s praise to sing.

The Christian Sabbath.
\ WAKE our languid souls,
Shake off each slothful band;
The wonders of this day
Our noblest songs demand :
(uspicious morn! thy blissful rays
f e hail in grateful songs of praise.
jAt thy approaching dawn,
I He burst death’s feeble bands,
s . And spoil’d our cruel foes ;
nd now he reigns with pow’r complete,
• i crush them all beneath his feet.
All hail! triumphant Lord,”
Heav’n with hosannas rings;
While earth, in humbler strains,
Thy praise responsive sings :
Worthy art thou who once wast slain.
Through endless years to live and reign.”
Great King, gird on thy sword.
Ascend thy conqu’ring car;
