I And upwards to the mercy seat
; Presumes to lift his eyes.
0 let not justice frown me hence :
Stay, stay the vengeful storm :
■ jForbid it that Omnipotence
| Should crush a feeble worm.
If tears of sorrow would suffice
i; To pay the debt I owe,
ij ;Tears should from both my weeping eyes
In ceaseless torrents flow.
1 But no such sacrifice I plead
5 To expiate my guilt;
No tears, but those which thou hast shed,
5 No blood, but thou hast spilt.
"Think of thy sorrows, dearest Lord,
And all my sins forgive :
1Justice will well approve the word,
| That bids the sinner live.

,1 T/ie Cure for a Wounded Conscience.
"• Y\/'HEREWITH s]lan o’erwhehn’d with sin,
j ' ' Before the Lord appear ?
Or how can such a wretch as I

1 And where’s the balm whose healing pow’r
1 Can cure a wounded mind ?
| Can all the pow’r of man do aught ?
Ah no ! ’tis all in vain—
[ ’Tis God that wounds, and God alone
Can heal the wound again,
i And lo ! Jehovah’s boundless grace
. The blessed cure supplies ;
