r ,CT. VI.] HYMNS,
- And lest the shadow of a spot
Should on ray soul be found.
He took the robe the Saviour wrought*
And cast it all around.
How far the heav’nly robe exceeds
What earthly princes wear!
i These ornaments how bright they shine!
Jj How white the garments are !
p The Spirit wrought my faith and love,
I And hope, and ev’ry grace ;
But Jesus spent his life to work
I The robe of righteousness.
t6 Strangely, my soul, art thou array’d
| By the great Sacred Three :
In sweetest hamony of praise
| Let all thy pow’rs agree.
198.
Regeneration. John i. 13. iii. 3, &c,
1 'VJ'OT all the outward forms on earth,
Nor rites that God has giv’n.
Nor will of man, nor blood, nor birth.
Can raise a soul to heav’n.
2 The sovereign will of God alone
Creates us heirs of grace.
Born in the image of his Son
A new peculiar race.
3 The Spirit like sorne heav’nly wind
Blows on the sons of flesh,
New-models all the carnal mind,
And forms the man afresh.
4 Our quicken’d souls awake, and rise
From the long sleep of death;
On heav’nly things we fix our eyes,
And praise employs our breath.
