JOHN NISBET.
347
from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.” Isa. viii.
17. “ Only let your conversation be as it becometh the
gospel of Christ, that whether I come and see you, or else
be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in
one spirit, with one mind, striving for the faith of the gos¬
pel. And in nothing terrified by your adversaries ; which
is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of sal¬
vation, and that of God. For unto you it is given in the
behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to
suffer for his sake.” Phil. i. 27—29. “ And he said unto
me, Thou must prophecy again before many peoples, and
nations, and tongues, and kings.” Rev. x. 11. Heb. x. from
the 11th verse to the end. “ Now, no chastening, for the
present seemeth to be joyousj but grievous: nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby. Wherefore lift up
the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees, and make
straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be
turned out of the way, but rather let it be healed. Follow
peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man
shall see the Lord. Looking diligently, lest any man fail
of the grace of God ? lest any root of bitterness springing
up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” Heb. xii. 11
—15. “ And I looked, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount
Zion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand,
having his Father’s name written in their foreheads. And I
heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters,
and as the voice of a great thunder ; and I heard the voice of
harpers harping with their harps : and they sung as it were
a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts,
and the elders : and no man could learn that song but the
hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed
from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with
women ; for they are virgins. These are they which follow
the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed
from among men, being the first fruits unto God, and to the
Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile : for they
are without fault before the throne of God.” Rev. xiv. 1—5.
“ Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of
the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto
you, and exhort you, that ye should earnestly contend for
the faith which was once delivered to the saints.” Jude 3.
