XII.
He from the high windows of heaven did poor.
Forty days, forty nights, one continu’d '.hower;
Till nothing was feen but waters all round;
And in this great deluge moft mortals were drown’d.

Sure ne’er was beheld lb dreadful a light.
As to lee the old world in this very fad plight;
For here in the waters all animals fwimming,
Men, monkeys, priefts, lawyers, cats, lap-dogs,
and women.

Here floated a debtor away from his duns,
There fwatn Father Graybeard Hark naked ’mong
nuns ;
And here a poor hulband, quite carelels of life,
Contented in drowning to get rid of his wife.

A king and a cobler here mingled in view.
Of rakes and young fpendthrifts there were not a
few ;
A whale and a Dutchman came down with the
tide;
And a rev’rend old bilhop by a young wench’s fide.
