The Lord bless thee and keep thee! The Lord make His
face to shine upon thee and be gracious unto thee! The
Lord lift up His countenance upon thee and give thee
peace!
The service was concluded with another short
prayer and the usual blessing. I thought it most ap¬
propriate, touching, and impressive. I gave my pre¬
sent (a silver mug) to the father, kissed the little baby,
and then we all drank to its health and that of its
mother in whisky, which was handed round with
cakes. It was all so nicely done, so simply, and yet
with such dignity.

Among the 29 languages represented are English, Gaelic, Italian, French, Russian and Swedish. |
