1. Required to find two numbers, of which the differ¬
ence is 4 and their product 221. - ' Ans. 17 .and 18.
Add the square of \ the difference to 221, and the squave
root of the sum is \ the sum of the numbers, to which add
* the difference to get the greater; or subtract them to get
the less.
2. What two numbers are these of which the product is
48, and their ratio as 4 to 3 ? Ans. 8 and 6.
As 4 : 3 : : 48 : 36, the square root of which is tho
lesser.
