To prove Division.
Multiply the quotient by the divisor, to the product add
the remainder, and the sum will be equal to the dividend
â– when the work is right.
Examples.
1. Divide 73146085 by 4. - Ans. 18286521J.

3. What is the quotient of 570196382 by 12 ?

4. How often is 37 contained in 74638105 ?

5. How often does 137896254 contain 97 ?
Ans. 1421610|4 times.
6. Divide 35821649 into 764 equal parts.
Ans. They are each 4688644t*
7. What is the quotient of 72091365 by 5201 ?
Ans. 13861y^4T.
CONTRACTIONS.
I. Division by a single figure, or by any figure in the first
line of the multiplication table, may be expeditiously per¬
formed by multiplying and subtracting .mentally, and writ¬
ing down only the quotient below the dividend.
