THE OLD STONE COFFIN;
OR, THE TOMB OF THE SPANISH PRINCESS.
JN the year 1588, the good ship “Florida,” one
of the Spanish Armada, was driven into the
harbour of Tobermory, in Mull, by the great storm
which scattered that proud fleet. The ship was
visited by the chief of the Macleans of Duart, the
remains of whose castle are still among the most
picturesque objects on the shores of the Sound of
Mull. The clan Maclean had a feud at the time
with the clan Macian, of Ardnamurchan, imme¬
diately opposite Tobermory harbour, and for some
“ consideration ” or other, Maclean of Duart, their
chief, induced a party of Spanish soldiers to aid
