Mod Lochabair
John MacLeod
Convener, Mod Naiseanta Rioghail Lochabair
Ceud mile failte gu Mod Naiseanta Rioghail Lochabair.
As Convener of the Local Committee of the Lochaber Royal National Mod it gives
me great pleasure to extend a sincere and warm welcome to all competitors and
visitors to Lochaber for the last Mod of the Millennium. In particular we are honoured
to welcome H.R.H. The Princess Royal who will give us some of her precious time
when she calls upon us during her visit to Lochaber.
Like many other areas where a Mod has been held, the Local Committee has to be
congratulated for their endeavours to ensure that the set financial target has been
achieved. It was no mean feat for the Lochaber Committee to raise the necessary
funds as we were competing against two other major local fundraising projects and
the effort, especially in the last ten months, has been outstanding.
On behalf of the Committee I wish to thank all those who contributed towards the
fundraising, in particular the Highland Council, Lochaber Ltd, The Bank of Scotland,
BT Scotland, Scottish Co-op and Welcome Cottage Holidays, who made substantial
donations and Donnie MacGillivray, Acharacle, who is supplying passenger transport
to and from the various Mod venues. Thanks go to the Oban Times for supplying
the Local Committee with an office and last but by no means least Marco’s Leisure
Centre, An Aird, which could not have been more helpful over the last three years
and are giving the Mod the premises free of charge. Ceud mile taing dhuibh uile.
I sincerely hope that you all enjoy the 1999 Mod and that you will return in the future.
