FORTHCOMING MODS
MOD NAN EILEAN 1989 : 6th - 13th October
The first ever National Mod to be held in the Western Isles was in 1979. Its success was in part due to the fact that
80 per cent of the Islanders are Gaelic-speaking, giving the 79 Mod a distinctive and characteristic flavour, or
‘bias’. In 1989 the Western Isles are to host the National Mod again, and that same character and experience will
be in evidence for all Mod-goers, whether competitors or spectators.
Gaelic and its culture are at the heart of the Mod, wherever it is held. But in the Western Isles the Mod is truly in
the Gaelic heartland. All enquiries for accommodation should be sent to the Accommodation Convener, the
Royal Hotel, Cromwell Street, Stornoway. Apply early, for demand is high!
Tha sinn toilichte gu faic sinn sibh bliadhna ’n Damhair sa tighinn, airson an cairdeas a chaidh a dheanamh aig
Mod 79 a leantainn agus caraidean ur a dheanamh, agus am measg seo a bhith a’ neartachadh a’ cho-cheangail a
tha gar cumail comhla: ar canan’s ar cultur — FAILTE.
MOD GHLASCHU 1990
1990 heralds Glasgow’s Year of Culture, and as the Gaelic language has been an integral part of the City’s culture
for many decades, it is appropriate that the Mod should return to Glasgow in 1990.
Most members of this year’s Committee have volunteered to continue in office and the Mod shop in Merkland
Street, Partick, will remain open for the next two years.
MOD INBHIR-PHEOFHARAIN 1991
In less than three years’ time, An Comunn will be celebrating its Centenary Year and it is delighted that the Mod
will return to the Highlands as part of its celebrations. Dingwall, the old capital town of Ross and Cromarty,
should be an excellent choice as it is in the heart of the Scottish Gaidhealtachd.
