Thirlestane Castle - view from front

The second of Slezer's prospects of Thirlestane shows the castle from the front.

This plate was not included in Theatrum Scotiae until the 1719 edition.

As in the previous drawing, several figures are scattered around the castle, both outside the wall and behind it. As well as a two horsemen, one mounted, we see a couple with a child and a dog. Behind the small tower on the right is a man pushing a wheelbarrow. While visitors stroll around the grounds, the daily working life of the castle goes on.

This plate was intended for Slezer's unpublished volume, The Ancient and Present state of Scotland. It was not included in Theatrum Scotiae until the 1719 edition.
