The Military Cross was awarded to 2nd Lieut. (A/Lt.) David Rushton,
A. & S. Highlanders, for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during
an enemy attack. He directed the Lewis-gun and rifle fire with great skill
and determination, forcing the enemy to deploy at a considerable distance
and inflicting heavy casualties. Eventually they gave up the attack. He
shot twenty himself. He did very fine service. (16th September 1918.)
