This Officer has done consistent good work since the Division landed in
France. During the heavy fighting in front of Henin and Croisilles, in
April 1917, he distinguished himself by his coolness in action, his devotion
to duty, and his untiring solicitude for the care and comfort of the
wounded.
The Distinguished Service Order awarded, June 1919, to T/Capt. (A/Major)
M. P. Paton, M.C, M.B., R.A.M.C. For exceptional fine work as D.A.D.M.S.
of the Division during the past six months. In April, during the heavy
fighting in the Ypres salient, he constantly visited the forward medical
posts by day and night under shell-fire and machine-gun fire, and rendered
invaluable assistance in the supervision of the evacuation of the wounded.
Again, in May, during the withdrawal to the Marne, he was indefatigable in
his efforts to organise means of evacuation under most difficult circum-
stances with a rapidly advancing enemy. By his energy and efficiency he
has at all times rendered the most valuable service.

December 1918.
