The Irvine and County of Ayr miscellany was printed and published from September 1814 to July 1815. The journal was sold by booksellers in Irvine, Ayr, Kilmarnock, Paisley, Beith, Ardrossan and Saltcoats. It is the first example of a work of miscellaneous literature published in the County of Ayr. It is also the earliest regular production of an Irvine printing press.

About the printer

John Mennons had a printing business in Edinburgh from 1773 to 1783. He then moved to Glasgow as editor of The Glasgow Advertiser. From 1810 he published The Glasgow Magazine and Clydesdale Register. By 1815 he had re-located to Irvine, where he produced the Irvine and County of Ayr miscellany with his son John.
