The divinity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is the first English translation of a work by the Frenchman Jaques Abadie. It defends the doctrine that Jesus Christ was true God against the heresies which claim that he was a created being.

About the printer

George Johnston set up the first printing press in Montrose in 1784. He started printing in Aberdeen in 1769 and was active in Perth between 1770 and 1775.

The divinity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ was one of the earliest books off the Montrose press. Johnston's experience in the printing trade helps to explain how it contained nearly 400 pages. Usually inexperienced printers would start with something shorter.

By 1794 Johnston had moved to Kirkcaldy.
