About the printer

Berwick upon Tweed is commonly counted among Scottish printing towns because of its geographical location and historical and cultural links with Scotland.

Robert Taylor established the first printing press there in 1753. In 1778 he printed The lady's, housewife's, and cookmaid's assistant, a cookbook compiled by his wife. Taylor also operated as a bookseller.
