The Catalogue of books in the subscription library at Dunse was printed for the library's subscribers. It is arranged by format or size rather than by subject or strictly alphabetically. This order reflects the arrangement of the books on the shelves in the library at Duns. (Dunse is the older spelling.)

About the printer

The 1789 edition of the Catalogue of books does not name a printer. However, the printer, bookseller and stationer James Brown produced a new edition in 1793. It is very similar to the 1789 edition in the use of typefaces and layout. It is likely that both editions were produced on the same press, and probably by James Brown.
