Andrew Lammie, or, Mill of Tiftie's Annie, is a 17th-century tragedy. It was published as a chapbook - a small booklet usually with between eight and 24 pages, printed on coarse paper, often with worn type. Chapbooks were the staple reading diet for 'common' people in the 17th and 18th centuries. About the printerJames Davidson was a bookseller, bookbinder and printer in Banff, Morayshire. He appears to have specialised in the printing of chapbooks. There is no imprint date on Andrew Lammie, but Davidson was active in Banff roughly between 1790 and 1837. (An imprint is usually on the title page, and indicates who is responsible for producing the item.) See also |
