Mr Houstone's answer to an illegal excommunication is a very poorly produced single-sheet item. The text is a response to the excommunication of a Covenanter. It was written by Irish covenanting minister David Houston.

Judging from the poor quality of the item, it was probably produced on a home-made press. Even the title is not wholly readable.

About the printer

Maybole, in Ayrshire, is named as the place of printing, but the printer's identity is unknown. We know of no other products from this press. It was to be nearly 150 years before another printing press was established in Maybole, in 1840.
