An essay upon the following questions was one of the first works Peter Rae printed in Dumfries. Written by an anonymous 'Well-wisher of the country's peace', this book deals with the authority of rulers.

About the printer

Peter Rae was active as a printer in Dumfries from 1715 until 1720. In 1721 legal difficulties with an estate inherited by his wife drove him to stop printing. His son Robert took over the press officially then and continued to print the Dumfries mercury.
