Title:The ruins of the royal palace and abbey
Printed:Dunfermline, 1800
Printer:D. Richardson

The ruins of the royal palace and abbey is a poem by Serjeant Cockburn. Being a soldier, the author was probably only temporarily stationed at Dunfermline.

This rare pamphlet is the earliest example of Dunfermline printing to survive. The Library does not hold a copy of this item, but there are two at Dunfermline Public Library.

A Gavin Beugo is said to have had a bookshop and small printing press in Dunfermline as early as 1762, but no products from his press survive.

About the printer

D. Richardson worked as a printer and bookseller in Dunfermline. He advertised his wares in the Glasgow Courier.
