Hugh Lyon Tennent and Allan Fyfe with "Brunette" cutter yacht. Fyfe's boat-building concern was established in Fairlie in 1812. Allan Fyfe (or Fife) (1833-1915) was the fourth (of five) sons of William Fife, the founder of Fife’s Boatbuilding Yard. While he worked with William Fife II, his brother, as a designer and builder of yachts, he was also well known as a racing skipper, sailing many of his brother’s yachts to victory. Married to Elizabeth Boyd, they lived in Rose Cottage at Burnfoot, a cottage that became in the 1950s and 1960s the home of noted naturalist, Dugald Semple.
