Description | The handwritten diary, letters and poems of Kirkcaldy-born Marjory Fleming, who died in Edinburgh in 1811, aged 8. Also a small portrait, and some letters of her mother and cousin (1811-1812). Marjory's writings reveal a literary child of strong opinions who wrote with great charm. Their later publication made her a subject of Victorian adoration. Her status as prodigy was boosted by an embellished 1863 account of her short life. |
