LETTER XIV.
To Mrs Blackader.
My Dearest Love, Friday, September 9.
I have received yours of Septem-
ber 4. The Lord has been very gracious
both to you and me, that he fo fupport-
ed you by faith trufting in him, and you
fee it is not in vain to truft in him, for in
the Lord Jehovah is everlafting ftrength;
there is none afhamed that truft in him.
What a mercy is it that Providence did
not pitch upon thee to be the melancho-
ly widow, as others are, who (land fo
much in need of the fympathy of their
friends, and that you are ferving God
cheerfully, lifted up in his ways, while
others are fitting difconfolate and defo-
late.
This has been a very bloody battle, a
dear bought victory. We have great
reafon to be thankful that our regiment
came fo well off as it did, when it has
fallen fo heavy upon others. Every day
