These various dates, therefore, go to prove the existence of
two Johns and two Hendries beyond any doubt.
Furthermore, the lineal descent here shown is corroborated
and almost demonstrated from contemporary evidence. John
Fairwedder, of Blackhall, was the father of the family party
mentioned on the memorial stone, now built into the south wall
of Menmuir Church, and which is dedicated to the memory of
' their Ancestors Residenters In this Paroch.'
This reference to ancestors clearly indicates that the Fair-
weathers had long been settled in Menmuir and the adjoining
districts.
Note by the Editor. — The Author here, in so far as his
information warranted, balances dates very adroitly. Adopt-
ing his estimates that, in 1609, Hendrie, of Blairno, must
have been 50 or 60 years of age, it is not difficult to work
out an approximate date table of these early ancestors, as
follows :
(1) Hendrie 1st, (Blairno) ... 1550 to 1620.
(2) James ,,
(3) John 1st, (?)
(4) John 2nd, (Blackhall)
(5) Hendrie 2nd (Braco)
1580 to 1650.
1582 to 1652.
1613 to 1676
1612 to 1680.
