42 HISTORICAL NOTICES.
Eachuin or Hector Oig, eldest son and suc-
cessor of Hector M6r, did not survive his father
more than four or five years ; during that short
period, however, he not only spent by his im-
provident conduct and profligacy all the ready
money left by the late noble chief, but burdened
the estates with debt. He seems to have in-
herited nothing of the distinguished qualities of
his father, but lived at peace, in the free enjoy-
ment of his besotted inclinations. His biographer
says nothing to warrant any other conclusion
than that Hector Oig must have been but a very
indifferent chief of Maclean.
