JOHN LAW OF LAURISTON.
John Law of Lauriston, Comptroller Ge*
neral of the Finances of France, one of the
most remarkable characters of modern times,
was born in the capital of Scotland in April
1671, his baptism being thus entered in the
Registers of Edinburgh on the 21st of that
month, " William Law, goldsmith, and Jean
Campbell, a son named John. Witnesses,
Mr. John Law, John Law, goldsmith, Archi-
bald Hislop, bookbinder, Heugh Campbell,
John Melvill, and John Murray, merchants."
