Letter about golf at Musselburgh

Duncan Forbes of Culloden was a leading Edinburgh citizen, keen golfer and founder member of the Company of Gentlemen Golfers.

Even as Lord Advocate he continued to enjoy a regular game at Leith or Musselburgh.

In this letter to his brother, Duncan Forbes tells of a game of golf at Musselburgh with his son in 1728.

'This Day after a Very hard Pull I Got the better of My Son at the Gouf in Musselburgh Links, if he was as Good at any Other thing as he is at that there might be some hopes of him.'
