| Description | A troop of cavalry in single file crossing a fairly makeshift wooden bridge. The ruins of the iron and stonework of the original bridge can be seen in the water. Bridges were commonly destroyed in order to delay opposing troops. The Royal Engineers were responsible for providing temporary bridges as fast as possible. The cavalry are riding with their full kit. Their rifles are hung on the right side of the horses, ready for action. Much of the rest of their kit is carried behind the saddle or slung from it, behind the rider's legs.
