| Description | The main entrance and tower of the medieval Cloth Hall at Ypres stands as a shell. Only a few remnants of the huge arcaded hall built in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries remain. The town in the background and the Cathedral, a little of which can be seen to the right, both lie in ruins. The original caption suggests that this was taken during a visit by Canadian pressmen. The devastation of Ypres Cathedral and Cloth Hall seems to have been used as an icon of the destruction caused by the German forces.
