| Description | German prisoners after the capture of St Pierre Divion, France, November, 1916. German prisoners are held in a barbed wire enclosure. Some are standing, others are sitting on the ground, resting. Several of the prisoners have bandaged wounds, one has a sling improvised from a scarf. Although they do not have their weapons or kit, many of the Germans are carrying coats. There is what appears to be a makeshift latrine of poles and sandbags behind a screen in the far left corner of the enclosure. The derogatory term for a German, 'Boche’ or 'Bosch’, originates from the French slang 'alboche’, which was two words 'Allemand’ (German) and 'caboche’ (pate, head) put together.
