| Description | Unter den Linden, Berlin, Germany, 1918. Part of Unter den Linden, a large main street in Berlin which held many of the important palaces and buildings of early twentieth-century Berlin. The crowds in this photograph are gathered outside the headquarters of the Royal Imperial Guard. This was probably taken on or shortly after the declaration of the German Republic and the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859-1941) on 9 November 1918. The Kaiser had fled to Spa in Belgium the day before the revolution. [Original reads: 'No. IA/57575. In front of the main guard in Unter den Linden.'] |
