| Description | Two soldiers help their wounded comrade, during World War I. Two soldiers are staggering under the weight of their comrade who is sitting balanced on their linked arms. He seems to be a little distressed and his comrades look quite serious but there is no look of horror on their faces. This action shot has no photographer attributed to it. The blur in the photograph and the angle of the soldiers walking towards the camera gives this scene an immediacy and spontaneity which is rarely found amongst this formal photographic collection. This scene would have made an ideal propaganda statement. Two soldiers have put themselves out to help a less fortunate comrade who, in turn, does not appear to be too badly hurt. The reality of the scene with its sense of action and the depressing mud and scenery would perhaps not have met with the sanitised standards of the propaganda office.
